In 2010, brothers Mark and Michael Nelson broke away from a larger commercial real estate firm to launch NelsonHill in the West Loop of Chicago.

In 2010, brothers Mark and Michael Nelson broke away from a larger commercial real estate firm to launch NelsonHill in the West Loop of Chicago. During the “Great Recession,” when most commercial real estate practitioners were pulling back in fear, the brothers doubled down in faith. With a vision “to create maximum value” for their clients in real estate, an innovative new platform was born.
Chicago is known as “the City of Big Shoulders” because of the tenacity and hardworking grit of its people, and the NelsonHill team has epitomized this spirit from inception. The first year was tough. Many thought this new, small company wouldn’t survive. Yet, a hardworking culture of service and excellence prevailed: NelsonHill excelled, capitalizing on its small victories and high-trust reputation.
Before long, the company grew to twelve associates focused on brokerage services, property management, and eventually principal acquisitions. Those were exciting years of double-digit annual growth and the company rode a wave of real estate transformations as the market turned and then thrived.
With a track record of brokerage leadership spanning more than 600 properties, representing over $1.5 billion in sales volume, and principal investments topping 700,000 SF, NelsonHill has consistently achieved outstanding results for its clients and partners

Mark specializes in the sale and leasing of commercial property, ranging in product class from unimproved land to ground-up development to commercial and industrial buildings. He has in-depth experience dealing with complex real estate transactions for investment-grade, income-producing assets. Mark develops and manages new and existing client relationships, and creates marketing strategies that ensure clients’ objectives are maximized. Using his extensive market knowledge, Mark develops strategic plans for the disposition and acquisition of assets. His thorough understanding of banking and capital markets is essential in assisting clients with complex transaction financing. Prior to launching NelsonHill in 2010, Mark worked for six years as a commercial real estate broker at Paine Wetzel ONCOR International. Mark is consistently one of the Top Producers in the Chicago region, year after year, working with property owners, tenants, developers, and institutions. By thoroughly understanding his clients’ challenges, Mark provides a full service, entrepreneurial approach that employs the best-in-class technology and resources to enable his clients to achieve the best possible results in the shortest possible time period. Additionally, Mark has extensive experience with adaptive reuse of properties. His responsibilities have included conducting sealed bid auctions, identifying qualified developers and preparing feasibility reports on issues such as zoning, physical due diligence, and financing. |

He has in-depth experience in complex real estate transactions for investment-grade, income-producing assets. Mike develops and manages new and existing client relationships and creates marketing strategies that ensure that clients’ objectives are maximized. Utilizing his extensive market knowledge, Mike develops strategic plans for the disposition and acquisition of assets. His thorough understanding of banking and capital markets is invaluable in assisting clients with complex transaction financing. Prior to launching NelsonHill in 2010, Mike worked as a commercial real estate broker since 2004 at Paine Wetzel ONCOR International. Mike continues to focus on the City of Chicago marketplace. Prior to real estate, Mike worked in corporate advertising where he was responsible for advertising campaigns and product positioning. |

| Kyle Bennett is a Senior Associate with NelsonHill, focusing on industrial and office products. Within those product types he works on leasing, sale-leasebacks, and sales. Kyle consults with his clients creating strategic plans to ensure flawless execution while easing any real estate concerns they may have. Kyle creates an entrepreneurial approach with his clients forming traditional and non-traditional strategies. With a background in finance, he understands the capital markets and banking involved with large transactions and institutional real estate. He also helps clients realize maximum entry and exits points through value add, financing, due diligence, and market knowledge. Prior to joining NelsonHill in 2020, Kyle has been a commercial real estate broker since 2017 with a range of experience from corporate NNN leasing at Fortune 500 companies to small business leasing and sales. Kyle also managed a 137,000 sq. ft. building in downtown Chicago. Preceding a career in real estate, Kyle worked in the financial industry. Kyle received a Bachelor of Science in finance from the Driehaus School of Business at DePaul University. When Kyle is not working, he enjoys many activities such as: being on the water, investing, golfing, and flying. |

Roman has been a valuable part of the NH Team since 2013, heading up construction projects ranging from complete building renovations to tenant-specific buildouts for office and specialty manufacturing. As a licensed general contractor, Roman has a broad base of experience and expertise working with the different trades to produce exceptional results for NelsonHill and their tenants. His projects range from a 390,000 SF industrial multi-tenant facility in Broadview, IL to building out a coffee brewing operation at The Machine Shop in Chicago. He is known for delivering results on time and within budget.

The NelsonHill Scholarship Program is a $20,000 scholarship awarded to a CPS graduate who consistently displays superior academic excellence, sporting achievement and leadership skills. Our candidate will receive $5,000 each year, for four (4) years of undergraduate enrollment. Our 2015 scholarship winner, Rebecca Sudworth, attended the CPS Walter Payton High School where she was captain of the all-city Water Polo team. She is now enrolled at North Eastern University in Boston.
